What is a POS system and what does a store need?

A POS system is software a store sells and keeps records with: the cashier scans each product's barcode and takes payment, and every sale comes off stock and shows up in reports. Termino has two parts: the till on the store's computer, which sells even without internet, and the system in your browser, where you manage products, stock and reports.

Why it goes wrong

A store that works from a notebook or Excel records sales and stock separately, so the stock figure always lags behind reality. At the end of the shift the cash in the drawer doesn't match, and nobody can say why. Some programs only print receipts and know nothing about stock, or stop working when the internet goes down.

How to do it in Termino

  1. 1

    A till that sells fast

The cashier signs in with their name and a 4-digit PIN, adds products by barcode, by search or from the grid, and takes cash, card or both together. The card terminal is not connected to the till: you run the card payment on the terminal first, then confirm it in the till.

  2. 2

    Stock that updates itself

Every sale comes off the branch's stock. New goods come in through purchases, and on the Pro plan also from RS.ge waybills. The system's home page, “Dashboard”, shows revenue, popular products and stock that is running low.

  3. 3

    Cash control

The cashier starts the shift with the amount in the drawer and enters the counted amount at the end of the shift. The till works out how much there should be and shows the difference, and the owner sees every shift in the “Shifts” report.

  4. 4

    Working without internet

Sales are saved on the till computer first and sent to the system as soon as the connection is back, so an internet outage doesn't stop sales. Ending a shift and closing the day need internet.

  5. 5

    Staff and permissions

Cashiers sign in to the till only. You add a manager or accountant on the “Employees” page as a website user, and they see only the pages in the system you gave them access to.

  6. 6

A plan that fits the size of your store

The Lite plan is for one branch and one till, with up to 300 products and up to 4 cashiers. On Pro, branches, products and cashiers are unlimited, and you also get RS.ge waybills, production, queue numbers and internal transfers between branches.

The full guide, with screenshots, is in the Termino system once you sign in. It is in Georgian for now.

Frequently asked questions

What hardware does a POS system need?

Termino's till needs a Windows or macOS computer with a barcode scanner, a receipt printer and a cash drawer connected to it. The system opens in a browser, so you don't need a separate program to use it.

Can a cashier sign in to the system?

No. A cashier signs in to the till only, with their name and PIN. If someone also needs to sign in to the system, the account owner adds them separately as a website user.

Does Termino's till work without internet?

Yes, you can sell without internet. Sales are saved on the till computer and sent to the system as soon as the connection is back. Ending a shift and closing the day need internet.

What is the difference between a POS system and a POS terminal?

A POS terminal is the bank's device you take card payments with. A POS system is till software that records sales, stock and cash. In Termino you use both together: you run the card payment on the terminal, and the till records it.

How do I change my plan?

Your Termino plan and any extra tills are changed by your account manager. Your plan, its limits and your usage are shown in the system under “Settings” → “Subscription”.
