How a till works: from the first sale to the end of the shift

A till works in shifts: the cashier signs in with their own PIN, opens a shift with the cash in the drawer, sells and counts the cash at the end. The Termino till works out the change and the expected end-of-shift cash, shows the difference and sends every sale to the system, where the owner sees it within seconds.

Why it goes wrong

New cashiers most often slip up in three places: they don't count the drawer when the shift starts, they confirm a card payment before the terminal has finished it, and they leave the shift open. In all three cases the evening total doesn't match and the cause is hard to find. Another common mistake is "cancelling" a sale on paper or verbally, so it isn't recorded anywhere.

How to do it in Termino

  1. 1

    Sign in with a PIN

On the “Who's selling?” screen, the cashier picks their name and enters their 4-digit PIN. After five wrong PINs, entry is locked for 30 seconds.

  2. 2

    Start the shift

In the “Start your shift” window, the cashier enters the cash in the drawer, for example 100 GEL, and taps “Start shift”. This amount becomes the “Opening float”.

  3. 3

    Make the sale

The cashier adds products from the grid or with a barcode scanner and changes the quantity in the cart with + and −. Then they tap “Pay”.

  4. 4

    Payment and change

For “Cash”, enter the amount received or tap “Exact amount”: the till shows the “Change”, and if the amount received is less than the total, it won't confirm the payment. For a card payment, first run the amount on the bank terminal and only then tap “Confirm card payment”: the terminal isn't connected to the till.

  5. 5

    End the shift

At the end of the shift, choose “End shift” from the menu, count the drawer and enter the “Counted cash”. The till shows the “Expected cash” and the “Discrepancy”, then sends all sales to the system. This needs an internet connection.

  6. 6

    Close the day

After the last shift, choose “Close day” from the menu: the till shows the day's totals across all shifts and each cashier's difference. This is an on-screen report, not a fiscal Z-report.

  7. 7

    The sale in the system

The owner sees every sale in the system on the “B2C Sales” page: date, branch, till, cashier, amount, products and payment method. A sale from a till that is online shows up in about 15 seconds, and clicking a row opens the sale's details, including the receipt number.

The full guide, with screenshots, is in the Termino system once you sign in. It is in Georgian for now.

Frequently asked questions

Can I cancel a sale?

Sales can't be cancelled on the Termino till. To correct a sale, make a return from the sales history; this needs the branch's return PIN.

What happens if I close the till without ending the shift?

The shift stays open. When you reopen the Termino till, the same cashier signs in with their PIN and carries on with the shift.

How long does it take for a sale to show up in the system?

When the till is online, about 15 seconds. Without internet, the sale is saved on the till and sent as soon as the connection is back.

Can several cashiers work on one till?

Yes, but one at a time: a Termino till has only one shift open at a time. One cashier ends their shift, the next signs in with their own PIN and starts a new shift, so every shift's difference belongs to a specific person.

How do I reprint a receipt?

On the Termino till, open “Sales history”, tap the sale and then “Reprint”. A receipt printer needs to be connected for this.
