Why it goes wrong
Queues at the till most often build up because of slow searching: the cashier looks for the product in a list or clicks the search field before scanning. With goods that have no barcode, the cashier often rings up a "similar" product, so both the stock and the reports end up wrong. And when buying a scanner, people often don't know which one they need or whether it will work with their till.
How to do it in Termino
- 1
Connect the scanner
The Termino till works with a USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner connected to the till computer. Once it's connected, scan any product that's already in the system and check that it lands in the cart.
- 2
Scan anywhere on the screen
The scanner works anywhere on the screen, with no need to click the search field: scan and the product goes into the cart. The corner of each product card shows the branch's stock.
- 3
Search and the grid when a code won't read
Find a product with the “All”, “Categories” and “Suppliers” tabs, the category buttons or the “Search products…” field. Tap the card and the product is in the cart. The icons in the top right corner show products as a grid or a list.
- 4
Cart and payment
Change the quantity on a line with − and +, or type it with the digits on the selected line, in “Quantity”. × removes the line. The “Total due” shows below: tap “Pay” and choose “Cash”, “Card” or “Split”.
- 5
Park the cart so the queue keeps moving
If a customer has forgotten something, tap ⋯ under the cart and choose “Park order”: the cart empties and you can serve the next customer. Resume a parked order from the order number in the top left corner.
- 6
An internal barcode for goods without one
When adding a product in the system, click “Generate” next to the barcode field and Termino creates an internal barcode; then print its label on the “Products” page (step by step: the lesson "Create a barcode and print labels"). That way every item sells as its own product and the stock is deducted correctly.
- 7
Queue numbers (Pro)
If customers wait for their orders, turn on “Queue management” for the branch on the Pro plan. Every sale gets a queue number, which shows on the till screen and prints on the receipt.

Which barcode scanner should I buy for my till?
USB and Bluetooth scanners work with the Termino till: a wired handheld scanner, a wireless scanner and a stand-mounted scanner that reads products hands-free. What matters is that the scanner reads the codes on your goods.
The scanner doesn't add anything. What should I do?
Check that the product has exactly this barcode in the Termino system and that the product is active. A new product appears on the till in about 15 seconds when the till is online.
Can I sell more than I have in stock?
That depends on the owner's setting. If “Allow negative stock” is turned off in Termino, the till won't sell more than is in stock and shows how much is available.
A product's price has changed, but the cart shows the old price.
A line already in the cart keeps the price it was added at. The new price appears on the Termino till the next time the product is added.
Can I sell products by weight?
The Termino till counts quantities in whole units and isn't connected to scales, so today you sell goods by weight per piece or per package: for example, a 500 g pack is a separate product with its own barcode and price. For several packs, the cashier types the number with the digits, in “Quantity”.
